He settled in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He obtained employment at the Sioux Falls rock quarries. The eldest son died at the age of eleven months and is buried somewhere where the city now stands.
Jonas Anton later obtained employment with the railroad. He then moved to Ramsey, South Dakota continuing his work on the railroad.
He told of the terrible snow blizzard of 1888, when he tied a twine from the house to the barn
so that he could find his way back and forth. Many people lost there lives that winter as it was
one of the most severe storms ever experienced in South Dakota. In the year 1889 Jonas
moved to a farm north of Salem Mc Cook County, South Dakota. There he bought a farm of
160 acres. Jonas Anton farmed with oxen as was the custom on the prairie. And he always
wore wooden shoes until one day he kicked a cow and his shoe broke in two, there after he
wore leather shoes. He lived on this farm until his death."
